Our First Visitor

This past week we had the pleasure of hosting Steve Saint in Lima. It was a blessing to spend time with him. Steve gladly gave his time to share with the Bible College students and the church.

You can read in earlier posts about how the Lord has brought us together with Steve Saint and ITEC. We are collaborating on a medical training program (IMED) that will train and equip indigenous believers in basic medicine where there is currently very limited, or no access to medical care.

The philosphy of ITEC is to equip and empower the indigenous church to fulfill their part in the Great Commission. It is also to encourage 'body type' interdependant relationships between missionary sending churches and those in frontier areas. This means recognizing that all believers are part of the same body, and have been given a specific part to play, working together towards the same goal. A truly indigenous church needs to be self-governing, self-funded and self-propagating. Our role is to create appropriate tools that allow for this, instead of creating a missionary-dependent church. If you are interested in mission work overseas (especially short term missions), we highly recommend reading Steve's book, "The Great Omission".

We are excited to see how the Lord is bringing together national believers here in Peru and creating these relationships. This past week, Steve made contacts with believers in Arequipa, Peru who will be helping with the animation portion of the IMED training video. This will provide us with the animation we require and them with experience and equipment for further work in this area.

Our time with Steve wasn't all work. We introduced him to Peruvian ice cream, took advantage of some beautiful weather to go for a long walk along the pacific coast. We hope that it will not be his last visit, nor our last visitor :)
