This past week a journalist and a photographer from Popular Mechanics visited ITEC in order to write a story about the "Maverick" - I-TEC's version of Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang for the jungle. Logan Ward, an author and regular contributing writer for Popular Mechanics, heard about the Maverick and was intrigued enough to research the story. The timing of his visit was perfect as the installation of the newly designed propeller drive system had just been completed and successfully tested the day before he arrived. With Logan and the rest of us watching from the ground both Steve and Troy flew the Maverick for the demonstration. The photo shoot involved both ground and air-to-air photography. In the collage below you can see Steve flying the plane for air-to-air photos while Troy flew the Maverick for a record breaking 20 plus minutes at 300 plus feet . At different times while they were in the air a helicopter pilot and plane were spotted in the area. Monitoring the airport radio frequency on the ground we were amused to hear Steve warning the other pilots that there was a "flying car in the vicinity".
