Recently, I've been involved in helping to promote the I-See program to North American short term missions teams. Short term missions teams can bring an I-See kit with them on their next trip and use it train a local church leader in a useful outreach tool and a"business as ministry". I thought you might be interested to read about this program. If you know of anyone who might be interested in this program, please let us know.
Caring for the felt needs of people is one of the best ways to build bridges for sharing the gospel. Vision impairment and barriers to treatment are common problems faced by those in developing countries, thus creating a felt need. I-See is a training program that equips indigenous believers with the skills they need to identify common eye disorders, fit glasses, and run a small, self-sustainable business as ministry.
Itec provides your short term missionary with the appropriate training they need to pass on this meaningful skill, thus enabling them to use their mission trip to leave a lasting impact. Using the I-SEE non-verbal training DVD, a short term missionary can train a church leader in just a day and a half, even if they don’t speak the language.
The I-See kit is an all-inclusive turn-key system including diagnostic tools and 400 brand new pairs of high quality glasses in eight different powers (prescription and non-prescription) in three sizes, allowing for the correction of both near and farsightedness. It includes everything your short term missionary needs.
At Itec we believe one of the roles of short term missions is to further equip the indigenous church to be meaningful participants in the Great Commission. Our goal is to provide self-sustainable technologies and training programs that enable North American churches to work together with national and indigenous church leaders in the developing world to strengthen them in their efforts of compassion, church planting and discipleship.
