Our departure time is fast approaching. I often check the blog countdown clock to give myself a little reality check on how little time we have to finish packing!
So far we have 9 bags packed and are almost ready to go. We have filled our bags to the 50lbs maximum. Rachel's music teacher, Helen, encouraged her students to donate items for us to bring down to Peru instead of Christmas gifts for her. Our bags are filled with hygiene items, medical supplies, school supplies and toys. I can't wait to surprise Albert and the other missionaries in Peru with these gifts. The children in Iquitos and Lima will be blessed!
If you are wondering why I haven't called to say goodbye, it's because I have lost my voice...literally! A little cold has turned into full-blown laryngitis! I'll have to stick to emailing for a while.
We truly appreciate the prayer support we are receiving. Thank you, thank you. We can sense the prayer cover. We feel peaceful about going.
My biggest concern has been keeping the kids safe in Lima. It was not a concern when just Evan and I visited Peru. Finding the balance between watching the kids and participating in the activities will be a challenge. I want to be wise, but not over-protective...or maybe I do!?!
For Evan, the challenge has been the lack of concrete plans for our time. Experience tells us that this is a good place to be, but our "western mentality" tells us we are CRAZY! Last year when we visited Peru we had one main objective and that was to visit the children's cottage property. That goal was accomplished on our last day in Peru. The rest of the time was filled to capacity with incredible experiences and opportunities we could have never "scheduled in" or planned. That experience and the assurance we have that God has directed us this far, gives us peace to go to Peru without solid day to day plans.
We'll do our best to update our blog regularly. Thanks for reading it. Bless ya! Heather
