Rachel has some exciting news to share with her friends back home. She has lost her first front tooth. What a significant event for a 6 year old! She was so happy we thought she was going to burst!
The kids are doing well. They have really adjusted well to life here. The constant flow of people can be tiresome. Learning spanish is slow, but we are all improving.
We feel very at home here in Peru. I am really enjoying the walks, the markets and the people. Having the time to study, relax and be involved in the various outreaches has been a real blessing for our family.
Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit a children's home near the college (in many ways similar to what RMCC is helping to start). Tania has befriended the lady who runs it. It was a blessing to be able to share lunch with her and spend time with the children. Currently she has 11 children at this site, with one set of twins and one set of quadruplets! She has a few staff that help her. Doris is truly relying on the Lord and He is doing great things through her life.
Nathan was the one most impacted by this time at the orphanage. He absolutely LOVED it and keeps asking to return. His heart is to play with the children and to give the staff a break. The picture is of three of the boys in the little pool on their roof. The two boys in the front are twins. They are all full of energy and mischief!
The medical course is going well, but we are finding that there is TOO much information to pass on and TOO little time. Today was a more practical class. We taught the students to take vital signs, take a medical history and a begin to do a basic assessment. They REALLY liked the penlights and stethoscopes. Our job now is to help them use them safely and effectively. Hearing about Albert's experiences in Iquitos and the medical situations he has been faced has helped the students see how useful this knowledge will be.
Come along with us!
This is the chronicle of our journey in faith and service that started in Peru. Explore our previous trip, and keep up to date with what is happening now as we work with ITEC in Florida, and with national believers in South America as well as other parts of the world. We'd love to hear from you - so comment on the postings, or send us an email!
