We were too busy in Calgary to properly celebrate Nathan's 11th birthday, so we have to at least post his photo. Our dear friends, Doug and Cherie, who are moving in to our house, came over to help us pack. They also brought a birthday cake to help celebrate. Can't believe you're already getting so old, Nathan!
10 large suitcases, 5 incredibly heavy carry-on suitcases, and 5 bags and we were ready to leave Calgary and head to Peru. The Air Canada agent was very kind and allowed us to slip by with slightly overweight bags. Yes, miracles do happen! Nathan's puppet was afraid there wasn't room for him in a suitcase, but he did make it. I'm sure the kids at the orphanage will be glad that he did!
We finally arrived in Peru. The temperature difference between Calgary and Peru was 80C (if you account for windchill). We are adjusting well to the climate change! The jeans and sweaters are packed away and the sunscreen and hats are out.
The past day or so has been a bit fuzzy for Evan and I. The long flights and even longer nights packing have left us pretty tired. It doesn't quite feel real that we have moved to Peru. I'm sure it will sink it once we move to our apartment.
No time has been wasted here as we are attempting to set up our apartment. We have learned to be flexible and be available to shop for neccesities when someone is available to take us and translate for us. Today we shopped for a fridge, stove, washer and dryer. It was strange to make purchases without extensive internet research. This is a stretching time for my researching husband.Currently, we are living at the Calvary Chapel Bible College. Our plan is to get the apartment ready as soon as possible. In Peru there is no such thing as furnished apartments. Someone told us that sometimes there isn't even a toilet and light fixtures. Fortunately, ours is a bit better equipped. We'll post photos when we have some.
Come along with us!
This is the chronicle of our journey in faith and service that started in Peru. Explore our previous trip, and keep up to date with what is happening now as we work with ITEC in Florida, and with national believers in South America as well as other parts of the world. We'd love to hear from you - so comment on the postings, or send us an email!
