So far our days in Florida have been a balance between working hard and some play. Our weekdays are filled with work at the ITEC office in Dunnellon, Florida. Evan spends the entire workday at the office working on the curriculum planning, video editing and animation while I (Heather) try to balance between participating in the work at ITEC and homeschooling the kids. Afternoon trips to Rainbow Springs State Park for a swim and the local library help the kids enjoy their time here.
It is quite a challenge trying to get our heads around the I-Med Project. We are helping to design a medical curriculum for church leaders in frontier areas (jungle, mountains) that will be a door opening tool for spreading the gospel. The challenge is creating a tool that fits the indigenous learner AND the health problems they will face. We appreciate your prayer for this. Last week we found we were able to move ahead at a preliminary level on the Hygiene Module and the Medication Delivery Module. This week we are tackling the Health Assessment and Anatomy Module. Your prayers really do make a difference. We do not feel equipped to design this course and rely on God to help us.
One blessing we have found while living here is the regular schedule we now have. In Calgary Evan worked shift work
and often worked weekends, which made family outings difficult. We have made an effort to spend our Saturdays exploring the beauty of Florida as a family. So far we have spent the day at the beach near Tampa and also Manatee State Park (last three photos). It is so good to have this time as a family and this beautiful state to explore. The kids are benefiting from more time with us.We have also connected with a local Calvary Chapel in neighbouring Ocala. The church is quite small and reminds us of RMCC in its early days. It is a blessing to have regular fellowship and the kids love Kids Church. The curriculum is the same as RMCC and the style of teaching familiar. An open-hearted welcome from the church has meant a lot to our family.
Come along with us!
This is the chronicle of our journey in faith and service that started in Peru. Explore our previous trip, and keep up to date with what is happening now as we work with ITEC in Florida, and with national believers in South America as well as other parts of the world. We'd love to hear from you - so comment on the postings, or send us an email!
