Saying Good-bye Again

Alonso with a little boy
We are sad to say good-bye to another friend. Alonso, a Peruvian Bible college student, was killed in a bus crash in Peru on his way back to Lima from Cusco. Alonso was a gifted pianist and had a heart for the Lord. He often stopped by our apartment to share piano music with Nathan and encourage him to keep playing. We will miss him. One of my memories of Alonso was from the day we spent with him shopping for a keyboard. We had to take many taxis as we drove from store to store looking for a good deal. In each taxi Alonso would engage the driver and lovingly share the gospel with him. He had a very respectful way of sharing Jesus' love. We will miss Alonso. It is a comfort to know that we will see him again in heaven.

Did you know? Traffic related fatalities are a leading cause of death for missionaries on the field. It is a sobering thought to think of the dangers that face missionaries (and locals) as they travel the roads of developing nations. Evan and I will be traveling to Shell Mera, Ecuador next Monday. From what we hear, the road from Quito to Shell can be a nightmare. Being that our friend was just killed while taking a bus on a mountain highway, the reality of the danger of travel and the brevity of life brings us to our knees. We appreciate your prayers as we prepare to travel again. We know God is above all things and ultimately in control, but we also know He asks us to pray and commit our way to Him. Thanks for praying.
