You're doing WHAT?

This is a fun post for me to let you know about something exciting that is happening. It should have come a little earlier, but there were a few hurtles to get over before letting the cat out of the bag, so here it is - I get to learn how to fly!

Surprised? Ya, so am I. I have wanted to learn how to fly since my friend in high school started working on his pilot's license. However, for a bunch of reasons, it just wasn't ever possible for me to pursue that interest. As we have been thinking about working in regions of the world that are very difficult to get to by land, the thought of being able to fly there started to spin around in my mind. Being at ITEC, on an airport, side by side with planes and pilots has also given plenty of inspiration as well. Heather and I started to pray about this issue to see what the Lord would have us do.

I don't know exactly what kind of answer I was looking for, but it wasn't this. Someone, without us knowing, came to Steve to ask his opinion of the value of me learning to fly. Following their discussion they offered to pay for the cost involved for me to train! When Steve gave me that news I was just amazed - Amazed at the gift, and also at the answer that was given to our prayers!

Now, even if the idea of learning to fly doesn't interest you, don't you think it's pretty neat how God worked it out? For us, the last 18 months has been an adventure of seeing God at work. We have theorized along the way about what exactly things would look like 3, 6 or 12 months down the road, but in reality we are not the ones writing this story - He is.

I have logged almost 8 hours now and am loving it! Don't ask me exactly why this door of learning to fly is open in front of me right now. I have my ideas, but I'm learning that my sight is limited and my planning imperfect - we'll keep you posted :)

One last thing - to whoever it is that gave so that I could do this, I want to say a huge thank-you! This is not simply 'paying for something', this is a true gift. A gift that was a direct answer to prayer. A 'God thing'. Thank you.
