The past 3 weeks have been busy ones. It is a time of unpacking and packing, preparing and planning. Our home church is sending a short term mission team that arrives in Peru tomorrow. Heather will be joining them in Iquitos for a week. Just 2 days after arriving back in Lima, our entire family will be off to work in Florida for two months. Last blog entry explains the reasons behind that more fully. Nothing like a little adventure!
Last week we had something very encouraging happen. We were in need of someone to sublet our apartment for the two months we are to be in Florida. Since we just arrived back from Canada, we hadn't had the time to arrange this earlier. While I was emailing a friend about this dilemma and saying how we were trusting God to provide, our door bell rang. An acquaintance from Wycliffe Bible Translators was helping another missionary couple find an apartment to rent. Karen couldn't remember our phone number so she decided to come by our apartment to ask if we happened to know of someone who was renting their apartment. I said I thought they might just be an answer to our prayers and invited them up to tour our apartment. The couple loved the apartment and agreed to rent it for the full two months. What a blessing to have this need taken care of in such a cool way! Thanks God!
We appreciate your prayers right now as we are preparing for our time in Florida and looking forward to the implementation phase of I-Med. We trust God to guide our family and give us direction for what that will look like. Please pray for wisdom for us and for our leadership.
It has been a blessing to reconnect with our friends at the Orphanage near our apartment. Here we were playing a spanish version of "duck duck goose", but I think it morphed into "duck duck dog" with full sound effects! It's a blessing to be able to spend time with our friends there. Last week we were able to bring the Shaddeau family from Florida to meet the kids. Rod and Karen Shaddeau and their two children are praying about moving to Peru to work as missionaries.
The new semester of Bible College students have arrived at CCBC in Lima. It is great to have a full campus once again and have more role models for our kids. Having a whole campus of eager college kids right down the street is a blessing, especially for our boys.
This is Albert Smith, a CC missionary in Iquitos, Peru. We will be working alongside him in Iquitos. Evan and I visited Albert 2 1/2 years ago and were blessed to see how God is using him to reach the children of Iquitos and the street kids "shoe-shine boys". Picture the pied piper walking the streets and that's pretty much what it looks like when Albert walks the streets. People know they are loved by him and that he demonstrates Jesus' love to them. It's a beautiful thing to watch. Check out www.perushope.com. for more details about his ministry.
As well as encouraging Albert in the ministry in Iquitos, the team from RMCC will be leading VBS clubs for kids in Iquitos and up the river in Panguana. Please pray for safety for the team and that God will use them to be a blessing to the people there.
Come along with us!
This is the chronicle of our journey in faith and service that started in Peru. Explore our previous trip, and keep up to date with what is happening now as we work with ITEC in Florida, and with national believers in South America as well as other parts of the world. We'd love to hear from you - so comment on the postings, or send us an email!
